May 12 DAY 5
After a cancelled flight and further delays on a rebooked flight, we finally arrived in Great Britain. We didn't leave Boston until around midnight, and arrived in Britain about 11:30 am London time. As it turns out, the Iceland Volcano did affect our flight. There was an unsafe amount of ash over the middle of the Atlantic Ocean right over our flight path, so we flew northeast from Boston to Iceland, then we made a sharp right-hand turn and went around the volcano (it was cloudy so we couldn't see it) and flew south, going down across Scotland to England. We flew right over Windsor castles in our approach to Heathrow airport. After checking into our hotel, we slept for a few hours in the afternoon, then walked to the local McDonald's for a quick bite to eat, then settled in for a good night's rest.
